One of the hardest things is watching someone go through life, living in a state of mental survival. One of my greatest joys is helping someone discover their strength and power and watching them move into a state of mental thriving, seeing them living their true selves.

In James’ Words
My journey to becoming a therapist started when I rolled the dice to create my first character for Dungeons and Dragons. When making that first character, I answered the miracle question for myself. "What would I look like if I could change my life and make myself into anything?" That first character laid down the groundwork for what would be aspirational goals of my future. As the years went by, I began to explore myself as I was with characters that were exaggerated versions of myself. Here, I began to see a theme across all my characters. I was a healer and a guide. Whether with song, prayer, or nature, I was there to help those who asked for it in-game.
I entered the workforce as a caregiver for adults with developmental disabilities and various co-occurring disorders. My passion for mental health was reignited when I was introduced to Dialectic Behavioral Therapy. I worked with various clients who experienced anxiety, depression, PTSD, and borderline personality disorder.
In the fall of 2018, I entered the graduate program to become a Doctor of Psychology. My approach to therapy is much like playing Dungeons and Dragons. I offer people the ability to become what they want to be, whether it is an idealized version of themselves or an updated version they discover along the way. While on this journey, I help them find the tools and strengths they have been using and discover new ways to use them. I let them know that trying out different character concepts is okay before pursuing the one that is right for them.
